We understand that navigating tax exemptions can be confusing, but we're here to help simplify the process for you. If you're tax-exempt and interested in purchasing one of our courses, here's a step-by-step guide:

Overview

It's important to know that sales tax is automatically generated based on your billing information's location. Our platform, Thinkific, charges sales tax on certain purchases, depending on the user’s state who is making the purchase. However, it's essential to note that First Sleep School (First Sleep, LLC) is not responsible for collecting those taxes or remitting them to the IRS. Instead, Thinkific handles this process and remits the taxes to the IRS on our behalf.

Please note that due to our system's setup, we cannot turn off sales tax for your order before the purchase. You must complete your order and provide proof of exemption status, and once approved, taxes will be refunded.

Step 1: Check for Tax Charges

Sales taxes are not applied to every order, so during the checkout process, review your order to see if taxes are included based on your location. If taxes are not applied to your order, then you will not need to proceed with the tax exemption process.

Step 2: Provide Necessary Information

If taxes are indeed applied to your purchase and you're tax-exempt, you need to provide us with specific information:

  • Your name (as it appears on your tax-exemption document)
  • Your email
  • Order number
  • Country
  • Address
  • City
  • Region (state/province)
  • Zip/postal code
  • URL of the Thinkific site where the order was processed (learn.firstsleepschool.com)
  • An uploaded copy of your tax-exempt document so Thinkific can verify your eligibility

To streamline the process, we've developed an online application form for your convenience, making it easy for you to submit this information to us.

Step 3: We Start the Verification Process For You

We will then send the information you provided to Thinkific's tax support team in order to begin the verification process on your behalf.

Step 4: Verification by Thinkific

Thinkific's dedicated tax support team will initiate the verification process through their tax compliance software, Avalara. Soon after, Avalara will directly contact you via email to securely provide your tax exemption documentation.

Step 5: Confirmation of Tax Exemption & Refund

Once your tax exemption status is verified, you'll receive a refund for the total amount of taxes charged on the initial transaction. Additionally, taxes will not be applied to any future transactions you make on our Thinkific site.
